Settings = Information

Have you ever had a question about your phone/tablet or need a repair done?  Well if you do, one thing you’ll need is your serial number when you call for service.  Luckily, it’s a piece of cake to find it in Settings.

What Are Settings?

This is the real story on “Settings”.   It tells the phone or tablet what to do and when to do it.  That’s basically it and it also stores information.  I’d love to have a “Settings” feature in me!  Like push my ear and I go right to sleep for 8 hours.  Or touch my nose and I would automatically start cleaning and love doing it too! 🤣  Never happen, but I can dream!

Settings Icon

Here’s what you are looking for and it’s typically on your main screen.

How to Use Settings

While the Settings options can look different based on the device you have, most Settings on Apple products are pretty consistent.

Here are a few photos to show you what my Settings looks like.  Tap the Settings icon and your screen will look similar to below photos.

Scroll down and then you’ll see the Search bar.

Two Ways to Get Where You’re Going

Now you have a choice to make.  Many times you’ll have a service person give you directions like, tap Settings, General, About, then scroll down to find your serial number.

I like the easy way!  Type serial in the search bar and tap on the pop up.

You will automatically be taken to the screen you need. The serial number will be highlighted for just a couple seconds once you get to the screen.

Play Around in Settings

Ok, now I’m not saying “change anything”! Just open Settings and see what’s there. Use the search bar to find an app, like Photos.  You’ll see the photos icon and then you’ll be able to see how the settings are listed.

Just have fun and gain confidence using your device by just knowing what’s there.  If you need to change a setting or want to know what a specific setting does, go to the top of my post and tap Ask A Question.

What’s Next?

How to get the background (Wallpaper in Apple world) of your choice.  Maybe you want your kids or grandkids most recent photo as your lock screen.  It’s easy and takes just a few seconds to set it up.
