If you use Siri for making calls or texting people, you know your contact’s names can sound way off! Did you know you can change the way Siri says the name of the person you’re trying to reach? It’s really easy to do and you’ll never hear the name pronounced wrong again.
Siri, Say My Name
One way is to ask Siri to open a contact that you know the name is not pronounced correctly. In my example I used Barnes & Noble. The “&” was pronounced “ampersand” not “and”. You will need to tell Siri the correct way to say the first and last name if that’s how your contact is set up.
For something fun and to put a twist on the pronouncing the name correctly, try this! Let’s say I can’t remember Barnes & Noble and I just want to call it “the book store”. This shows I replaced one word for each word in the name of the contact. So now I can just say Hey Siri call “the book store” and Siri will call Barnes & Noble. Have fun giving your family and friends creative “nicknames”! 👩🏻💻🤷🏻♀️😂
Once the contact is open, Siri will make a statement that includes the contact’s name. Tap the Siri icon at the bottom and say something like, that’s not how you say the name. Siri will ask how do your pronounce Barnes? Tap the Siri icon at the bottom and pronounce the name.
Next Siri will show you a few different options to play and select the one that sounds closest to how you pronounce the name. If you don’t like any of them, tap Tell Siri again or Cancel. This process will repeat until you have correctly pronounced the name of the contact.
Siri ends by repeating how the name will be pronounced from now on. Just remember, I could have named this contact “the book store” and it will work fine.
